Week 5 Recap

Only 1 team remains undefeated: The Kansas City Chiefs. At this point in the season, there is no arguing that they are the best team in the NFL because they are, hands down. Kareem Hunt just continues to tear up the playing field as he had yet another game of 100+ yards. To go along with that, Alex Smith is looking like a top 5 quarterback in the NFL this season. The Chiefs are clicking on all cylinders on offense, but still need to tighten up their defense a bit.

While 1 remains undefeated, 3 teams remain without a win: The 49ers, the Giants and the Browns. Who would have thought the Giants would be in the same conversation with these two teams at the beginning of the season? The Browns are looking real bad. I expected them to take a bit of a step up this year, but nothing has gone right. DeShone Kizer is not their answer at QB as he was replaced by Kevin Hogan against the Jets this Sunday. The 49ers are keeping all of their games competitive, but they just cannot score the ball. Carlos Hyde took a big step back this week and he split playing time with Matt Breida, which was concerning. Brian Hoyer is not their future quarterback and they are just hoping they can find one in this upcoming draft. Then comes the Giants. They started 0-4 and you could not think things could have gotten worse. They did. Odell Beckham, Dwayne Harris, Brandon Marshall and Sterling Shepard all left Sunday’s game with injuries. Initial reports have it that Shepard will return sometime this year, but Beckham, Harris and Marshall are all shut down for the year. This Giants team is one of the biggest disappointments in recent history and things are only going to get worst this season.

Carson Wentz and the Eagles are competing for that top spot in the NFC. They cruised to a victory this week as they dominated the David Johnson-less Cardinals, 34-7. The Titans and Raiders desperately need their quarterbacks back. The Titans were only able to put up 10 points against the Dolphins without Marcus Mariota. Some reports have it he may return this week, while others say he could miss a couple of weeks. The Raiders put up 17 points on the Ravens without Derek Carr, but they too struggled mightily. Carr is pushing to return this week and the Raiders need it if they want to stay in the division race. The Raiders have been a disappointment as a whole so far this season as Marshawn Lynch and Amari Cooper continued their struggles.

Deshaun Watson continues to impress. He threw for 5 touchdowns Sunday night against the Kansas City Chiefs and he is fighting with Kareem Hunt for Rookie of the Year. However, the Texans lost J.J. Watt for the season. A huge loss for a Texans team that is struggling to start the year. Aaron Rodgers did Aaron Rodgers things against the Cowboys as he led the Packers to a comeback victory. The Packers scored 23 points in the second half and Rodgers threw a TD pass to Davante Adams with 1:13 left in the game to win it. Mitch Trubisky made his debut Monday night against the Vikings, but struggled mightily against a stout defense. The Bears lost the game as Trubisky completed 12 of his 25 passes for 128 yards and a touchdown. Trubisky threw an interception and lost the ball on a fumble as well.
