Iowa State continued their impressive season today with an upset of number four ranked TCU.
Iowa State entered the game at 5-2 and ranked number 25. TCU was 7-0 entering this weekend. The Cyclones are now 2-0 against top five teams this season as they upset Oklahoma earlier in the year.
It was a defensive battle the whole night. Neither offense could really get anything going. 14-7 was the final score as TCU’s lone score was a 95-yard kickoff return for a touchdown from KaVontae Turpin.
Both of Iowa State’s scores came in the first half on passing touchdowns from Kyle Kempt.
Kenny Hill looked off tonight and played his worst game of the season so far. He threw two interceptions and lost a fumble. One of this interceptions and the lost fumble were both in the red zone.
Hill threw for 135 yards on 12-of-25 passing.
The rushing game looked really good in the second half, but big runs were consistently waved off because of penalties. Darius Anderson rushed for 95 yards and Kyle Hicks added 80 yards on the ground.
The defense was just as good as they have been all season. Iowa State’s receivers had a considerable size advantage over TCU’s cornerbacks and safeties and that’s what helped the Cyclones to score twice.
The Horned Frogs saw their winning streak come to an end, but they can still go on to win the conference championship.
TCU hosts Texas next weekend. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:15 on ESPN.
