This past Sunday on October 1st, 2017, the Texans came out with a bang against their fellow division rivals the Tennessee Titans. During their Week 4 showdown in Houston, the Texans set a new franchise scoring record as they put up 57 total points against the Titans. Rookie QB Deshaun Watson shined again, throwing for 4 touchdowns and rushing for 1 giving him a total of 5 Touchdowns on the day. 57 to 14 was the final score of the game and the Texans dominated from start to finish.
The Texans played great football on offense and defense from the start of the game, all the way down to the final whistle. This was also a divisional game, and those games are always important, no matter what part of the season it is! Deshaun Watson’s 5 total touchdowns tied the NFL Rookie record for most touchdowns in a game. Watson is also the first rookie QB to pass for at least four touchdowns and rush for one touchdown in a game since NFL great and Hall of Famer Fran Tarkenton did so for the Minnesota Vikings in 1961.
Watson spread the ball around great on Sunday as well, with six different players having at least two catches. Star Wide Receiver, DeAndre Hopkins, had a very strong day as well and his chemistry with Watson on the field was definitely showing. Hopkins finished the game with 10 catches for 107 yards and a touchdown! This was also Hopkin’s first 100-yard receiving game of the year as well. Lamar Miller had a big day as well as he had 19 carries for 75 yards and had 2 total touchdowns with one rushing touchdown and one receiving touchdown. Miller is a good back and has major upside, it has just taken him a while to get going behind our shaky offensive line without star Left Tackle Duane Brown. However, without Brown, the Texans last couple of games have kept the sacks to a minimum as Miller and Hopkins have been able to make plays respectively from their positions for the team.
Last, but not least, the Texans’ Defense played a big part in the team’s big win over the Titans. The Texans scored 57 points on offense and only surrendered 14 points on defense to the Titans. Marcus Mariota is a very good young Quarterback for the Titans and the Texans forced two interceptions off of him for the day, as safety Andre Hal picked Mariota off twice. Undrafted rookie Linebacker, Dylan Cole, led the way with 5 total tackles and had a huge play in the 4th quarter as he intercepted backup quarterback Matt Cassel and returned it 25 yards for a touchdown. That big play capped off a day in which the Texans’ defense dominated the Titans’ offense and allowed the 14 points in the second quarter. After halftime and for the rest of the game, The Texans’ defense kept the Titans’ offense in check and they didn’t score again. It was a great win for the Texans and got them back to 2-2 on the season and has them in a 3-way tie between Jacksonville and Tennessee for the top spot in the division. Let’s hope the Texans kept playing great football like the way they did against Tennessee!
