The Boston Red Sox outlasted the Baltimore Orioles, New York Yankees, Toronto Blue Jays, and the Tampa Bay Rays to secure the division for the second year in a row! What awaits them in the dugout (ice cold bottles of champagne) is seemingly less menacing than their title run that lies ahead of them.
As they take on the Houston Astros in Texas starting next Thursday, they will face a team with stellar offensive power that matches their great rotation. Dallas Keuchel, Justin Verlander, Lance McCullers Jr. to go along with all star infielder Jose Altuve, and Carlos Correa.
The Red Sox can match the first two games with playoff caliber pitching duels. With Cy Young candidate Chris Sale and a stellar season from Drew Pomeranz, it could go either way in Houston. The next two games would take place in Boston, where Eduardo Rodriguez, Rick Porcello, or Doug Fister could receive those starts.
To combat the Astros prowess on both sides of the ball, the Sox have young stars such as Mookie Betts, Xander Bogaerts, Brock Holt, and Rafael Devers, just to name a few. The veteran, Dustin Pedroia, is finally off the disabled list as well. This series, along with the other AL match ups, should be very interesting to watch. As the Indians will play the winner of the AL wild card game between the Yankees and the Minnesota Twins.
