The Green Bay Packers have announced the signing of former Pro-Bowl Linebacker Ahmad Brooks, the signing comes just one week after he was released by the San Francisco 49ers. The deal has been reported as a one-year deal worth up to $5 million with different incentives per NFL Networks own Ian Rapoport. While I don’t believe Brooks is the same player he once was, I do feel like he adds much needed depth at the OLB position, and I think he can still provide a pass rush off the edge that the Packers’ defense lacked at times over the past few seasons.
Clay Matthews has faced a slew of injuries the past two seasons in particular, and rookie Vince Biegel is expected to start the year on the PUP list, the Packers varied from their usual way of business and went after a player they felt filled a need, and added depth. Ted Thompson proved again why he has the trust of the front office as well as the fan base. Well done Ted, well done.
