If anybody would have told me on draft night that the Los Angeles Lakers may have drafted the steal of the draft in Kyle Kuzma, I would have laughed in your face. As of now though, I am truly starting to believe that the Lakers may have just done so.
Kyle Kozma, a 6 foot 9 inch Forward out of the University of Utah, was the 27th overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft. I was very unhappy when the Lakers made this pick and I honestly knew about next to nothing about him. Impressively however, he had an outstanding three seasons at Utah and improved his game tremendously in that time. He was a First Team All PAC12 selection in his junior season, and he nearly averaged a double-double (16.4 points and 9.3 rebounds per game). Kuzma had an outstanding NBA Summer League as well to many people’s surprise. Lonzo Ball and Kuzma helped lead the Lakers to the Summer League title. Kuzma was an NBA Summer League 2nd team selection, and he recorded 30 points and 10 rebounds in the Summer League title game against the Blazers. Kuzma is just the kind of energy player that the Lakers needed to get this offseason. He will serve as an excellent scoring option off the bench this season for the Lakers, as well as be a very versatile defender.
Although Kuzma getting picked 27th overall did not make sense to may at the time, he can really play. He will be a great option in the near future for the Lakers.
