So Close But Yet So Very Far

WHAT IN THE WORLD IS THIS ORGANIZATION DOING?! WE WERE THE TEAM PRIMED TO GO TO THE WORLD SERIES AND WIN IT! IN TYPICAL MET FASHION WHENEVER THEY HAVE ANY EXPECTATION, NO EXCUSE ME POSTIVE EXPECTATION THEY FIND ANOTHER WAY TO RIP OUR HEARTS OUT AND STOMP IT ON THE GROUND. If you have not figured this out by now this article is strictly going to be a rant on how this beautiful team has yet again broken my heart.

Where do I begin? OH I KNOW! Why in the world is Rafael Montero still in a Mets uniform? What has he done to deserve chance after chance with this team. Any time he goes the outing is simply disastrous. He always seems to have that one inning where he forgets he’s a pitcher and can’t throw a strike and when you give him a lead, it’s almost like he’s insulted by it like how dare they try and win this game I’m going to give the lead right back! This “magnificent” rotation and I use that word very loosely right now was supposed to be the milk to our cereal, well you know what? THE MILK IS ROTTEN!

Let’s go through the list of pitchers in our rotation that are gone shall we? Let’s start with our ace Noah Syndergaard. Why didn’t you listen to the training staff when they said to shut it down or slow it down a little man, why? God knows we need you. That game against Washington meant nothing to us, you should have taken the rest and been with us now in the dog days of summer. Look winning the NL East is out of the question but at least if we had you we would have more of a chance to compete for the second wild card spot. It’s just upsetting because we have all the tools we need to be successful but nothing ever seems to go our way.

Next we have “the dark knight” Matt Harvey. Now I respect all the hard work he’s put in to get back onto the field and try to help us win, really I do. But the injuries he keeps getting are too often and getting suspended from the team was the last straw for me. You’re a professional ball player man, how could you get yourself suspended? You got to keep your personal life from effecting you professional life. Don’t get me wrong I know life can get in the way and it can affect your performance but I just think as a professional you need to do a better job blocking that stuff out.

Moving on, we have Steven Matz who scares the daylights out of me. Here’s why, I almost feel like every pitch he throws he’s going to hurt something somehow. I feel as if he’s the most injury prone starter we have. Don’t get me wrong when he’s injury free and pitching the way he can it’s a thing of beauty but he needs to keep himself off the DL.

I’m not going to say anything about Jacob deGrom because he’s done everything he can to help this club, in fact I thought he should have been an all-star but that’s a different conversation for a different day. If you would like to hear my thoughts about how deGrom should have been an all-star check out Episode 1 of our podcast, now back to my rant.

Finally to round out the rotation newly injured Zack Wheeler. Wheeler has just been put on the 10 day DL with a stress reaction in his right arm. I admire the way he’s come back but I think he should’ve been put in the bullpen. He hasn’t pitched in two years and you have so many young arms that are healthier and ready to go. I am not going to include Lugo and Gsellmen in this conversation because they weren’t considered to be part of this core that would get us to the World Series even though they have more than done their part.

Moving onto the offensive side of things, why am I still seeing Asdrubal Cabrera in a Mets uniform? THE GUY SAID HE WANTED TO BE TRADED! Then all of a sudden he decided to take it back, I’m sorry that shouldn’t be how it works. You want out of NY? Good we don’t need you, we can find someone else to make errors at shortstop.

Speaking of shortstops, Jose Reyes should have been released before the all-star break. It doesn’t make sense to have him on the team. Yeah he has gotten hot as of late but it took way too long for him to come around. We have our top prospect in Amed Rosario waiting to be called up and help this team. If you don’t want to release Reyes then bench him and call up Rosario to start and maybe have Reyes mentor the kid.

Lucas Duda is another player I think should be benched and have the kid Dominic Smith play. The guys got great bat speed and can hit too all fields. The Mets aren’t going anywhere this season so why not let the young guys play and start fresh gain next year and hope we can avoid another disaster.

I believe this is something all Mets fans need to do from time to time just let out some steam because as hard as it is for the players it’s just as hard for us die hard fans. I love this team and I will never leave them no matter how bad things get, it’s just frustrating to see how close they are as a team to getting to that next step and have all this go on. I am hoping for a playoff push this year but I’m not going to fool myself and say it’ll be easy because it’s going to be very difficult especially trying to win in July and August when teams that are winning are starting to hit their strides. Here’s to hoping for the best but expecting the worst. Let’s go Mets.
